Performance Overview
Join the UNCSA Wind Ensemble and Symphonic Winds, together with the Wake Forest University
Wind Ensemble, for a special joint concert on Tuesday, April 21 at 7:30 PM in Brendle
Recital Hall at Wake Forest University.
The evening will feature a dynamic and compelling program celebrating both new music
and wind band masterworks. The UNCSA Wind Ensemble, conducted by Dr. Mark A. Norman,
will present the consortium premiere of "Windows and Mirrors (Symphony for Band)"
by acclaimed composer Brian Balmages. The Wake Forest University Wind Ensemble, under
the direction of Dr. Timothy Heath, will perform Percy Grainger’s beloved "Lincolnshire
Posy," a cornerstone of the wind ensemble repertoire.
The concert will culminate with a powerful combined performance by the UNCSA Symphonic
Winds and the Wake Forest University Wind Ensemble. Together, the ensembles will perform
Francis McBeth’s "Of Sailors and Whales," a vivid and dramatic work inspired by Herman
Melville’s "Moby-Dick," along with "Declaration Overture" by UNCSA’s first Chancellor,
Vittorino Giannini. Giannini dedicated the work to UNCSA’s first graduating class,
and it was premiered at the school’s first commencement 60 years ago.
