Performance Overview
American pianist Joshua Rupley returns to UNCSA for a residency with our pianists and singers, and a recital of
19th-century repertoire for piano solo.
This program features two distinct viewpoints in mid-century piano writing: the poignant
lyricism of Franz Schubert’s Drei Klavierstücke, composed just months before the composer’s untimely death, and the dramatic intensity
of the Sonata in F minor by the young Johannes Brahms.
Rupley is an award-winning and versatile performer and educator, who appears regularly
in recital, and is a dedicated advocate for contemporary music and new works. UNCSA
audiences may remember his first visit to our campus with UNCSA Fletcher Opera alumna
soprano Emily Newton; they are colleagues at the Leopold Mozart College of Music of
the University of Augsburg in Germany.
