School of Filmmaking presents 'Faust' with live metal score

"Faust" presented by UNCSA Filmmaking and The Silent LightJoin the School of Filmmaking for a screening of F.W. Murnau's "Faust" with a live metal score by The Silent Light on Friday, March 29th, at the ACE Theatre Complex starting at 7 p.m. Gary Mairs, a prominent figure in the world of cinema, will host the screening.

A distinguished faculty member at CalArts since 1997, Mairs possesses extensive knowledge in film history, particularly in areas such as realist style, rock and roll movies, the Western genre and editing. Mairs' film work has played at festivals, including Rotterdam, Courtisane, Zinebi, Palm Springs and San Diego Underground. 

The Silent Light is led by multi-instrumentalist, visual artist and filmmaker, Mike Formanski. Formanski has collaborated with various artists such as Moby, Gregory Porter, Lady Blackbird, Akemi Fox and Amanda Gookin. The Silent Light has written and performed scores for classic German silent films, including Nosferatu, Faust and Metropolis.

Faust, one of the pinnacle achievements of the silent cinema, is the epic tale of the demon Mephisto’s wager with God: with the fate of all mankind in the balance, the gentle scholar Faust sells his soul and faces a world of temptation.

The event is free and open to the public.
