WSPD drone partnership

Artist VillageAs part of their "Drones as a First Responder program," the Winston-Salem Police Department (WSPD) will be using the rooftop of Artist Village as a launch pad for one of several drones they are strategically placing throughout the city.

Through this program, WSPD will soon be dispatching drones to major off-campus incidents, providing valuable intel in emergency situations.

As part of this program, the drone housed on top of Artist Village will lift off to respond to emergencies in the area as needed. Once its work is complete, it will return to Artist Village's roof until the next need arises. The drone will not be operational every day, and will not be conducting any surveillance of campus.

The drone is no more than 2 feet by 2 feet, weighs approximately 1.65 pounds and emits only a humming sound from the small rotors; there should be no disruption to the UNCSA community. Please reach out to UNCSA Police with any questions.
