I like to integrate the fine and liberal arts at all levels of my teaching practice.
I use creative and logical processes in my own baseline planning and delivery of instruction.
I give assignments that challenge students to be creative and logical thinkers and
doers. Whenever possible I use ‘the dance of conversation’ to integrate the fine and
liberal arts. And while I maintain a dual focus on knowledge and skills, I feel the
abundance of information available in the current moment calls on me to focus mainly
on helping students become skilled – in interpreting/reading information, recognizing
patterns in data, and making their own representations in a variety of media including
but not limited to text.
By integrating the fine and liberal arts in all aspects of my teaching practice I
feel I am preparing students very well for professional life in the 21st century.
