Expansive sound, bold soloists and high-stakes musical energy unite in a Symphony Orchestra program built to thrill. Hailed by Fanfare as a “rising young conductor,” Ian Passmore returns to lead a dynamic evening of contrast and power.

Missy Mazzoli’s “Sinfonia (for Orbiting Spheres)” opens the program with glowing textures and driving rhythm. The spotlight then turns to 2025–26 Concerto Competition winner Ilya Perepelitsa (B.M. ’26), taking the stage for Carl Nielsen’s Concerto for Flute and Orchestra — a work defined by wit, lyricism and striking contrasts that showcase both soloist and ensemble. The program closes with Sergei Prokofiev’s Symphony No. 5 in B-flat Major, Op. 100, a sweeping finale that leaves audiences with electrifying momentum.

Filipino-American conductor Ian Passmore is artistic director of the Oak Ridge Civic Music Association and music director-designate of the Oak Ridge Symphony Orchestra. A North Carolina native, he has appeared with ensembles across the United States and abroad. Passmore is known for his adventurous musicality and expressive, engaging approach on the podium.
