Gerald Freedman Theatre

The Gerald Freedman Theatre, named in honor of Dean Emeritus of the School of Drama Gerald Freedman, is located on the upper ground level of Alex Ewing Performance Place — directly across from the main entrance. It is similar in design to the Circle Repertory Theatre in New York and the Guthrie Theatre in Minneapolis.

It is an optimal performance space for drama with 368 seats that surround a thrust stage on three sides. Newly renovated in 2021, Freedman Theatre hosts performances by the School of Drama, as well as concerts by the UNCSA Jazz Ensemble and other special campus events.
