Madison Hoerbelt is a mezzo-soprano from Rochester, New York pursuing a Graduate Diploma at University of North Carolina School of the Arts, A.J. Fletcher Opera Institute, where she will study with Phyllis Pancella.
Hoerbelt has been a Resident Artist with Teatro Nuovo and a Studio Artist with Opera Ithaca. With Opera Ithaca, Hoerbelt performed the role of Public Opinion (Orpheus in the Underworld) and covered the roles of Fenena (Nabucco) and Marcellina (Le nozze di Figaro). Some of Hoerbelt’s performed roles include Ma Moss (The Tender Land), L’enfant (L’enfant et les Sortilèges), and Dritte Dame (Die Zauberflöte). Most recent roles with the Maryland Opera Studio include Brittomara (If I Were You), Ramiro (La finta giardiniera), Frau Reich cover and Chorus (Die lustigen Weiber von Windsor), and The Socialite (The Fishwife - World Premiere). Upcoming roles with A.J. Fletcher include Maria (The Baker of Seville - Educational Outreach), Beppe (L’Amico Fritz), and Amaranta (La fedeltà premiata). Hoerbelt is an accomplished ensemble singer, performing in venues such as Carnegie Hall (Dorothy Cotton Jubilee Singers) and The Kennedy Center (University of Maryland Concert Choir).
Hoerbelt is a three-time Encouragement Award winner of the Metropolitan Opera Laffont Competition and recently performed as the Alto Soloist in Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony with the University of Maryland Symphony Orchestra. Hoerbelt holds an M.M. from the University of Maryland where she studied with Kevin Short and a B.M. from Ithaca College where she studied with Dawn Pierce.
