Supporting our Asian American and Pacific Islander community

Dear Campus Community,

I want you to know that I unequivocally condemn all forms of bigotry and racism and the violent events that have escalated dramatically over the past year toward the Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) population — most recently the tragic events in Atlanta. As a community, we do not tolerate violence or discrimination of any kind and are standing in solidarity with the AAPI community in our nation, state, city and right here on our campus.

UNCSA is committed to creating a safe environment where our students, faculty and staff can thrive. If you are feeling unsafe, threatened or observe acts of hate or violence toward any member of our community, please contact Campus Police at 55 from any campus phone or 336-770-3362 from a cell phone or off-campus phone.

Racism and violence have deep and lasting effects on the mental health and well-being of members of targeted groups. If you need assistance, please don't hesitate to reach out. Counselors are available to students through our Counseling Center at 336-770-3288. The after-hours Healthlink number is 1-888-267-3675. Faculty and staff may access the state’s 24/7 Employee Assistance Program administered by ComPysch by calling 1-888-311-4237.

I urge you all to join me in voicing support to the members of our AAPI community and continue to work toward change by combating bias, exclusion and oppression.

Very best regards,

Brian Cole
Chancellor
