Sharing the final draft of UNCSA Forward

Dear Campus Community,

Early in 2021, I launched a collaborative planning process with the UNCSA Leadership Council to create a vision for the next five years at UNCSA. Last October, I shared that vision with you in a draft of UNCSA Forward: Our 2022-27 Strategic Plan. As you know, the plan is focused on five core institutional strategies:

  • Equity, Diversity, Inclusion and Belonging (EDIB)
  • Health and Wellness
  • Interdisciplinary Work in the Arts
  • Maintaining and Expanding Industry Relevance
  • Institutional Sustainability

UNCSA FORWARD: 2022-27 STRATEGIC PLAN

Over the fall semester, we did our best to engage all of you in meaningful discussions about the future of UNCSA. An online survey provided the opportunity for anonymous feedback and ideas from all campus stakeholder groups, including trustees, alumni and friends. And I presented the draft plan for discussion at meetings with constituent groups, including faculty, staff and students. I’m happy to report that at the end of January we were able to take that feedback and generate the final draft of the plan. We then shared that final draft with faculty, staff and student leaders and today are sharing it with our entire campus community. This is the version that will be presented to the Board of Trustees for approval on Friday, March 4.

From the campus survey data, we found opportunities to clarify certain elements of the plan, broaden some overly granular aspects, consolidate some existing actions, and implement some new actions. For example, we added the Stevens Center's renovations and the high school residence halls under the “Institutional Sustainability” strategic initiative, and we created some new actions related to Health and Wellness, EDIB and scholarship fundraising.

I’m excited about where we have landed at the end of this process. Guided by leadership vision, this strategic plan will chart the course for our exciting journey toward the future of UNCSA, and will help our institution be the best it can be. There are significant opportunities and challenges ahead, and it is rewarding to be able to do that work with such a committed and talented community.

Sincerely,

Brian Cole
Chancellor
