Sometimes, the kids at our service sites can be a little emotional. As young people,
a lot of them are not quite sure how to handle their feelings yet.
One morning, as Cynthia (a fellow ArtistCorps member) and I were walking down the
halls of our service site, we crossed paths with a young boy. The little boy was clearly
having a bad day. His fists were clenched, his eyes were downcast, and he even ripped
a holiday decoration off the wall.
As Cynthia and I passed by, the little boy lashed out and tried to hit me. He missed,
but I was still shocked and a little upset. Before I could say anything, though, the
little boy was gone.
Just a day later, I received a beautiful apology in the form of a drawing. The little
boy realized what he had done and endeavored to apologize by creating art. I accepted
his apology and now the card has a place of honor on my fridge at home.
