Mr. Pollard’s Fifth Grade Class

Author: Charlie Herndon

In film integration, I showed my class an early 3D animation and the teacher rightfully pointed out the narrative was sexist, which I found super endearing. It's about a snowman who pines after this bikini girl toy and he (the teacher) told the class "don't you think that's kind of old-fashioned", which, look at these woke teachers we've got out here! These kids are smart too, probably from a jadedness to all the video games and media and flashy stuff they consume nowadays. A kid asked me what 3-D modeling technologies we use. A fifth grader! I told him we use Maya and ZBrush, but that's a question I'm hardly  qualified to answer. There was another kid who knew the exact date film was invented, there were lots that had questions about the technical sides of film, ranging from the cameras to the equipment, which is great, we need more mechanically minded-oriented kids nowadays. They keep me on me on my feet!
