Maya Mays is a fourth year student in the School of Drama. While at UNCSA, she has performed in numerous productions, including "Heathers," "ROE" and "If Pretty Hurts, Ugly Must be a Muhfucka."
Mays has always loved theatre, ever since she was a little girl playing the Baby Kangaroo in "Seussical Jr." That formative experience has led her to perform in many plays and musicals, and she even performed Shakespeare on the Santa Cruz Shakespear stage this past summer. While Mays loves being on the stage, she has also discovered a joy of participating in both live-action and animated films, collaborating with the School of Filmmaking.
When she's not performing, Mays stays busy: she is a member of the student group, Artists of Color, and a member of the Dose Collective in Winston-Salem. During the summer, she volunteers with the Armory Arts Center in Florida.
Mays is very thankful for all of the opportunities and lessons she’s had at UNCSA over her three years; she cannot wait to finish her degree with the support of this scholarship, the School of Drama faculty and her talented peers.
