Pluck Project Mission Statement

The Pluck Project empowers UNCSA’s senior contemporary dance majors to take their next steps towards becoming professional artists and active contributors to the broader arts community. This project is driven by the initiative and creativity of each graduating class, tailoring each year to the artistic explorations and efforts of the emerging class. Through Pluck, each artist is provided a viable platform to develop their own creative voices through choreographing, performing, teaching, and engagement in the local community of Winston- Salem, NC.

As the Pluck class of 2027, we have chosen to travel to one of the world’s most influential dance communities, New York City. Here, we will host a performance at Gibney Dance theater where our class will perform a commissioned work by Katie Vickers titled “Good Grief” and three original works choreographed by artists within our cohort.

Alongside our show, we will explore the city’s vast dance archives, attend performances, and take classes from a variety of companies. This experience will inform our work, allow us to cultivate connections, and deepen our understanding of the contemporary dance world. Our class is excited to bring these learnings back from New York City, in hopes to contribute to the developing arts community here in Winston Salem.

We are excited to embark on this journey with you all! Your collective support is pivotal to helping us fund travel, rehearsals, professional photography, and performance opportunities. Each of these elements directly support our growth and success, both in our careers and lives beyond UNCSA.

Can we also update the Pluck website info at the top of the UNCSA Pluck page? It currently shows Class of 2026. The Class of 2027 would like to replace the copy with this revised copy:
