Matt Harvey is a scholar and educator whose teaching and research explore the intersection
of environmental humanities and political thought. He teaches political and environmental
philosophy in the Division of Liberal Arts, encouraging students to examine the stories we tell about humanity's relationship
with the natural world while cultivating curiosity, critical thinking and creative
inquiry.
Before joining UNCSA, Harvey served as a visiting assistant professor at Wabash College and was a postdoctoral fellow at Princeton University. His scholarship explores questions of wonder, and interconnectedness, and his work has been published in leading journals in political theory and environmental humanities.
I see teaching as a collaborative performance art, where I work alongside my students to engage with challenging questions and ideas that can help spark our imaginations and empower each student’s unique creative voice.
