Director of Learning Resources named
We are proud to welcome Jadarius “J.D.” Jackson to the Teaching and Learning Center,
as the director of Learning Resources, effective June 13. Jackson brings a wealth of experience to this role, having served
as the director of Accessibility Resources at Western Carolina University. He also
worked as a counselor, disability access services advisor, and academic advisor during
his career at Guilford Technical Community College. Jackson has a Ph.D. in Educational
Studies with a concentration in Cultural Foundations from the University of North
Carolina at Greensboro and holds a master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling
from North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University.
Jackson brings vibrancy and a passion for supporting students across the spectrum
of abilities to overcome barriers to their success. In supporting students and colleagues,
he has provided diversity, equity, inclusivity, cultural sensitivity, and mental health
and wellness trainings to students, faculty, and staff. Jackson is committed to the
values of diversity and inclusivity and brings to this role a clear and powerful vision
for advancing a sense of belonging at UNCSA. Some of his experiences in this area
include serving as a mentor for the Emerging Scholars program for Black males, working
on the Mental Health Taskforce at UNCA, scholarly research focused on the experiences
of marginalized and underrepresented students, and working collaboratively to make
interventions more inclusive, celebratory, welcoming, and engendering of all groups’
successes. In his own words, he has a “personal and professional conviction to champion
students.”
We welcome J.D. into our community and we look forward to the important work he will
undertake alongside his campus colleagues.
