Director of Learning Resources named

Jadarius "J.D." JacksonWe are proud to welcome Jadarius “J.D.” Jackson to the Teaching and Learning Center, as the director of Learning Resources, effective June 13. Jackson brings a wealth of experience to this role, having served as the director of Accessibility Resources at Western Carolina University. He also worked as a counselor, disability access services advisor, and academic advisor during his career at Guilford Technical Community College. Jackson has a Ph.D. in Educational Studies with a concentration in Cultural Foundations from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and holds a master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University.
 
Jackson brings vibrancy and a passion for supporting students across the spectrum of abilities to overcome barriers to their success. In supporting students and colleagues, he has provided diversity, equity, inclusivity, cultural sensitivity, and mental health and wellness trainings to students, faculty, and staff. Jackson is committed to the values of diversity and inclusivity and brings to this role a clear and powerful vision for advancing a sense of belonging at UNCSA. Some of his experiences in this area include serving as a mentor for the Emerging Scholars program for Black males, working on the Mental Health Taskforce at UNCA, scholarly research focused on the experiences of marginalized and underrepresented students, and working collaboratively to make interventions more inclusive, celebratory, welcoming, and engendering of all groups’ successes. In his own words, he has a “personal and professional conviction to champion students.”
