IT delivering email phishing training to your inbox

A note on a fish hook asking for user name and passwordMost of you have experienced receiving an email claiming to be from a reputable company in order to deceive you into providing your login credentials or other private information. This is called phishing, and clicking on a link in a phishing email can lead to a cyberattack, which can potentially cause a widespread campus network outage. It is every UNCSA computer user's responsibility to guard against cyberattacks.

How it works

To increase our cybersafety, Information Technologies is introducing email phishing training. We will send a simulated "phishing" email to your inbox periodically to entice you to click on links and to provide your login or other information. If you do click, don't worry as no personal information was sent. You will be notified that you clicked on a dangerous link and will receive tips and a short video training on how to identify a phishing email. The training will not be mandatory now, but is highly encouraged.

If you identify the email as phishing before clicking on any links, you can report it using the instructions in this knowledge base article:
How do I report spam or phishing emails?
