''Sammy, Without Strings'' to have its world premiere at Austin Film Festival

Puppet of a Black man performs on a puppet stage The 2022 undergraduate film  “Sammy, Without Strings" will have its world premiere in competition at the Austin Film Festival this weekend. Known as the writer’s festival, the Austin Film Festival and Writer’s Conference runs from Thursday, Oct. 27–Friday, Nov. 3.
 
“Sammy, Without Strings” will screen in Shorts Program 8 – the student shorts block, screening twice during the festival:  Sunday, Oct. 30 at 11 a.m. at the Galaxy Theatre 5 and again on Thursday, Nov. 3 at 4 p.m. at the Galaxy Theatre 5.
 
The Sunday, Oct. 30, screening will be the world premiere for “Sammy, Without Strings.” Writer Will Henderson, III; writer/director Ralph Parker, III; producer Jenna Cusack and producer Grace Williamson will all attend the festival to represent UNCSA and their film.
 
“Sammy, Without Strings” is directed by Ralph Parker, III; written by Will Henderson, III; and Ralph Parker, III; produced by Jenna Cusack and Grace Williamson; cinematography by Ariano Treviño Angelone; production design by Grayson Fisher; edited by Kendall Best; sound design by Kendall Best and Daniel Christie; music by Wilfred Moeschter; costume design by Erin Justice; and hair & makeup design by Courtney Kakac.
 
Eleven School of Filmmaking graduate students are also attending the Austin Film Festival and Writer’s Conference this weekend with visiting producing faculty member Pooja Gupta. All the students will have the opportunity to attend screenings and panels like “Fail Again, Fail Better”
“World Building in Your Writing,” “Leading the Room: Showrunners Responsibilities,” and “Representation On and Off Screen” and network with leading industry writers, producers, and showrunners.
