Director Julie Taymor film screenings this weekend

julieThe Thomas S. Kenan Institute for the Arts in collaboration with the Schools of Dance and Film are excited to welcome Julie Taymor to UNCSA, February 7-10.

While here she will engage with the UNCSA campus community in a variety of ways throughout the week. In advance of her visit the School of Filmmaking has organized daily screenings of several of Taymor's films.

We encourage students to take advantage of this opportunity to view Taymor's work together in community.

Screenings

"Frida"
Friday 2/3 at 7 p.m. 
ACE Main Theater

"Frida" is a 2002 American biographical film directed by Julie Taymor which depicts the professional and private life of the surrealist Mexican artist Frida Kahlo.

"The Tempest"
Saturday 2/4 at 7 p.m.

Gold (located in the ACE theater complex)

Written and directed by Julie Taymor and premiered at the Venice Film Festival, "The Tempest" is a 2010 American fantasy comedy-drama film based on the play of the same name by William Shakespeare. In this version, the gender of the main character, Prospero, is changed from male to female; the role was played by Helen Mirren.

"The Glorias"
Sunday 2/5 at 7 p.m.

Gold (located in the ACE theater complex) 

"The Glorias" is a 2020 American biographical drama film directed and produced by Julie Taymor, from a screenplay by Taymor and Sarah Ruhl. The film is based upon "My Life on the Road" by Gloria Steinem who is represented by four actresses in the movie who portray her life in different ages.

"Titus"
Monday 2/6 at 7 p.m.

ACE Main

"Titus" is a 1999 film adaptation of William Shakespeare's revenge tragedy "Titus Andronicus," about the downfall of a Roman general, the first theatrically released feature film adaptation of the play. Starring Anthony Hopkins and Jessica Lange, it was the directorial film debut of Julie Taymor.
