UNCSA musicians advance to national competition

A student and an alumnus of the School of Music will advance to the national competition of Music Teachers National Association after winning their categories at the 10-state division competition.

Roni Shitritviolin, will compete at the Senior Strings level. She is a second-year undergraduate from Israel who studies with Ida BielerPianist Owen Dodds of Winston-Salem will compete at the Young Artist level. He earned a Bachelor of Music in 2018 and a high school diploma in 2014 as a student of Clifton Matthews and Dmitri Shteinberg. Dodds has a master’s degree from Boston University and is pursuing an Artist Diploma at Mannes College of Music at The New School in New York City.

“Competitions like the MTNA offer a valuable benchmarking opportunity for our student-artists and alumni,” said Interim Dean of Music Saxton Rose. “We congratulate Roni and Owen and our faculty-artists who have mentored them.”

Shitrit and Dodds will submit video entries for the national competition, with winners to be announced in early March. They are among 11 UNCSA musicians who advanced from the state competition to the division competition.
