Performance Overview

Experience “Johnny Loves Johann,” as it makes its way back to Winston-Salem after a near sold out run in New York City, May 1–3, 2026.

The Kenan Institute for the Arts at UNCSA and Carolina Performing Arts at UNC-Chapel Hill serve as lead co-commissioners of this bold new work led by GRAMMY-winning violinist and 2024 MacArthur Fellow Johnny Gandelsman.

In a transformative evening of music and dance, "Johnny Loves Johann" pairs Gandelsman’s folk-inspired interpretation of Bach’s Cello Suites, performed live on violin, with original choreography and performances by John Heginbotham, Caili Quan, Jamar Roberts, and Melissa Toogood, celebrating the humanity and dance at the center of this iconic music.

Join us on Saturday, May 2 for a post-show discussion with the creative team behind "Johnny Loves Johann."
