Alyssa Hartstein (she/her), a South Florida native, began dancing at the age of three. Her early training began at Dance Theatre of Parkland and the Somerset Arts Conservatory, where she immersed herself in ballet, contemporary, tap, and jazz, among a wide range of other movement forms. She later performed with multiple national champion dance teams across the East Coast.
Alyssa is currently pursuing her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Contemporary Dance at the UNCSA, training rigorously in modern techniques including Cunningham, Limón, Horton, Groundwork, Countertechnique, and classical ballet. Her performance experience includes works by Yvonne Rainer, Merce Cunningham, José Limón. As well as contemporary choreographers Juel D. Lane, John Lehrer, and UNCSA faculty Ming-Lung Yang, Brenda Daniels, and Dean Endalyn Taylor Outlaw.
To further expand her artistic practice, Alyssa temporarily relocated to Berlin this past summer to take part in the inaugural b12 mavericks program, a three-month immersive residency for emerging artists. There, she trained daily with international artists from around the world, exploring voice, acting, partnering, improvisation, and video dance, and deepening her perspective as a multidisciplinary performer. Alongside her studies, Alyssa teaches and choreographs for students of all ages.
