Brandon A. Watson is an actor, writer, and lover of storytelling. Growing up in Richmond, Virginia he attended a predominantly white institution, but used art and civil service to express himself and his culture despite the identity struggles he faced. He comes from a family of educators and veterans who instilled strong values to always lead with kindness and empathy wherever he goes.
UNCSA has given Brandon countless opportunities, one of which was the groundbreaking production of Choir Boy where he played the lovable “AJ.” He is also excited to be leading an upcoming UNCSA 4th year thesis film entitled My Brother, Marvin as the titular character “Marvin.” As well as directing his self-written play, Flight 93 for the Keys to the Kingdom Season.
Brandon is a former football player, a film nerd, and a theatre kid at heart. Which inspired his nickname, “the real life Troy Bolton.” He loves going to museums, and playing basketball with his mother’s 2nd grade class. He is forever thankful for his training at UNCSA, and strives to utilize this knowledge to prove to children of color that they are not defined by racial stereotypes. He doesn’t expect to change the world, but he hopes to at least leave it better than he found it.
