Clara Faria Hirata is a third-year student from São Paulo, Brazil. She is majoring in Filmmaking with a concentration in Directing. Films have always been a passion, but studying abroad became a goal when she decided to actually pursue a career in filmmaking. It was extremely tough to fly out of her comfort zone and land in a completely different place with a completely different culture. But the community of people at UNCSA made her feel at home as soon as she got to campus.
Why did you want to become an Ambassador?
I wanted to become an Ambassador because when I was a prospective student talking to my future classmates on the UNCSA tour, their willingness to tell me what the school could offer me in and out of the classroom truly helped guide my decision to attend the university. And, in turn, because of how those students helped me, I wanted to do the same: to share my personal experience in a way that enriches peoples' prospective futures going forward.
What is your favorite spot on campus and why?
My favorite spot on campus is the Hill – the outdoor area between the dorms and the Student Commons – because on sunny days, putting a blanket on the grass and sitting there is just the perfect place to relax with friends, listen to some music, have a picnic with Pickle Jar food or even do some homework (and eventually take a nap). And if you’re lucky, you might even spot a volleyball game or two!
