She began her dance training at the age of two at M’lanie Hunter Dance, where she studied a wide range of styles including ballet, jazz, tap, hip hop, acro, pointe, and contemporary/lyrical. At an early age Emily began participating in competitive dance which fueled her passion and commitment to the art form.
In 2019, Emily continued her training at Top Tier Dance Academy to further hone her skills and expand her dance repertoire. With encouragement from her teachers she auditioned and was accepted into the University of North Carolina School of the Arts (UNCSA) high school program, where she enrolled as a Ballet major. After graduating from high school, Emily chose to continue her studies at UNCSA, as a part of their BFA undergraduate program while also shifting her focus to contemporary dance.
During her time at UNCSA, Emily has trained extensively in Horton, Limón, Countertechnique, Groundwork, Release technique and West African. She has had the opportunity to perform works by notable choreographers such as Ming Yung Lang, Endalyn T. Outlaw, Juel D. Lane, Yvonne Rainer, Gaspard Louis and Stewart/Owen Dance. Emily also collaborated with renowned choreographer Dianne McIntyre at the American Dance Festival, in summer of 2024, where she performed a new piece created by McIntyre. Emily has sought to expand her expertise by working with distinguished instructors at summer institutions like the American Dance Festival, Orsolina28, and Dance Italia, further enriching her versatility and passion for dance.
Upon graduating, she hopes to dance professionally while continuing to explore her choreographic process and deepen her passion for contemporary dance
