Hayden McCann is a native of Columbia, South Carolina and began dancing at the age of seven. Hayden began his training in competition dance before transitioning to classical ballet. His sophomore year of high school Hayden was accepted to the Governor's School for the Arts and Humanities in Greenville, South Carolina.
While attending SCGSAH, Hayden furthered his education in classical ballet, training in Vaganova, Ceccetti, and the American Ballet Theater’s school curriculum, also training in classical modern techniques including: Graham, Horton, and Limon. After graduating Hayden was accepted to the Ailey/Fordham BFA program where he was taught by Melanie Person and Tracy Inman in ballet and Horton respectively before transferring to University of North Carolina School of Arts in 2022.
At UNCSA, Hayden has learned various techniques including Cunningham, Limon, Horton, and most recently CounterTechnique and has also cultivated release work and floor work while at UNCSA. Some highlights of Hayden’s time at UNCSA include: dancing new works by, Darrell Grand Moultrie, Rena Butler, and Jim Vincent, Pascal Rioult, Chalvar Monteiro, Kayla Farrish, and most recently in Gavin Stewart and Vanessa Owen’s "The Front," and most notably being a part of the second premiere of Merce Cunningham’s 1973 work "Travelogue."
