Isa Poteat is a contemporary dance artist whose passion for movement began at the age of five when she started training at a local studio in Monte di Procida, near Naples, Italy. Upon returning to the United States, she continued her dance education at PowerUp Dance Center, where she trained extensively and competed nationally, earning numerous awards and recognitions for her performance and artistry.
She graduated from the Baltimore School for the Arts, where she studied ballet, pointe, composition and modern techniques. During her time there, she had the opportunity to perform works by acclaimed choreographers Trey McIntyre, Stephanie Martinez, and Amy Hall Garner.Isa is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Contemporary Dance with a minor in Arts Entrepreneurship at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts (UNCSA). At UNCSA, she has studied groundwork, countertechnique, improvisation, partnering, and West African dance, while refining her skills in composition, Horton, Cunningham and Limón techniques.
Her performance credits include works by Kendall Ramirez, Yvonne Rainer, Gaspard Louis, Merce Cunningham, Endalyn T. Outlaw, Ming-Lung Yang and José Limón. She also served as a rehearsal assistant for Jule D. Lane, and worked as an understudy for Martha Graham’s "Dark Meadow Suite," enriching her understanding of choreographic processes and performance versatility.
Isa remains deeply committed to expanding her artistic voice and is passionate about storytelling through movement, collaboration, and continued exploration within the field of contemporary dance.
