Jazzy Dixon is a sophomore directing and acting major at UNCSA. She was brought up in many places but has lived primarily in Houston, Texas. The arts have been a part of her life since she was very young. After going to arts middle schools and HSPVA for high school. She has chosen to pursue a higher education in theatre here at UNCSA.
She has a deep passion for political and dramatic stories, and hopes to use theatre as a means to tell the stories about black people that the media doesn’t prioritize. She believes that theatre encourages empathy and educates society on a deeper and personal level. She advocates for wider spread theatre education and higher quality arts programs for underfunded and marginalized groups. She hopes to encourage young black women like herself to fight for the representation and stories that deserve the same reverence and care as the stories we have in the media today.
Jazzy has directed her own student pieces in high school. She has a passion for stage and film acting and for directing. Her most recent works include assistant directing Angels in America by Tony Kushner under Gianna Marullo. She also is going to present Love is a blue tick hound by Audrey Cefaly in this year's festival.
