Julian Mudge-Burns is an artist from Seattle, Washington. He discovered his love of theatre through his immersion as both actor and audience member in Seattle’s regional theatre scene. As a shy youth who self-selected to play a rock in his preschool’s adaptation of a picture book, this exposure to multitudinous worlds built through language inspired him to come out of his shell and begin a lifelong journey of excavating inner vitality in unexpected places.
Julian is dedicated to a life and artistry that defy limitations. Raised by two moms, he thrives in narratives where strength arrives through tenderness and power dwells in dichotomy. Guided by Tadashi Suzuki’s assertion that the actor’s job is to “attempt the impossible knowing it is impossible,” he strives to continuously cultivate curiosity and community through collaboratively assembling a puzzle of the mercurial human condition; one he knows he will never complete, only deepen.
At UNCSA, he performed in the Classical Rep Series as Garry Essendine in “Present Laughter” and Achilles in “Troilus and Cressida.” He was also Gibson and Mr. Burns in “Mr. Burns, a Post-Electric Play.” This upcoming semester, he will be in “Tales from Ovid” and portray Ferdinand and Antonio in “The Tempest.”
