UNCSA welcomes Kevin B. Byers as Associate Vice Provost for Budget & Fiscal Planning
UNCSA is pleased to welcome Kevin B. Byers as our new Associate Vice Provost for Budget
and Fiscal Planning, effective Aug. 1, 2025.
Kevin brings more than 20 years of experience in governmental accounting and budget strategy, along with over 15 years in higher education administration. In this leadership role, he will oversee Provost division budget development, fiscal planning and resource management, ensuring alignment with UNCSA’s mission and strategic goals.
Prior to joining UNCSA, Kevin served as Assistant Dean for Budget and Administration in the School of Health Sciences at Winston-Salem State University. There, he managed multimillion-dollar budgets, capital projects, and financial compliance, while also serving as Interim Chief Operating Officer for the Center of Excellence for the Elimination of Health Disparities. His earlier roles include work in sponsored programs and contracts and grants accounting, where he oversaw more than $10 million in public and private funding.
Kevin holds an M.B.A. from Saint Leo University and a B.S. in Business Administration from Saint Paul’s College. He also earned a certificate in Business Analytics Science from UNC Charlotte. A lifelong learner and leadership development advocate, he is a graduate of Leadership North Carolina, the College Business Management Institute and the Hampton University Executive Leadership Institute.
Kevin is also deeply engaged in community service. He currently serves on the board of Experiment in Self-Reliance, a nonprofit focused on economic empowerment and self-sufficiency. His previous board service includes leadership roles with Trellis Supportive Care, the Novant Health Foundation, the City of Winston-Salem’s M/WBE Advisory Committee, and the Simon G. Atkins Community Development Corporation.
Beyond his professional and civic contributions, Kevin is a proud husband to his wife of 14 years, Naomi, and a dedicated father to their 12-year-old daughter, Saige — affectionately known as “Hollywood” for her talents in singing, acting, dancing and piano. He enjoys music of all genres, theater, golfing, traveling and reading.
