Dear UNCSA Community,
We were shocked and saddened to learn of the tragic shooting that occurred yesterday at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill, which took the life of a member of their faculty. My heart goes out to the entire UNC-Chapel Hill community, especially those who were personally affected, as they deal with this devastating event. I know that you join me in standing with them in solidarity during this difficult time.
I know that news about events like these is unsettling, and can cause feelings of uncertainty and fear. I also acknowledge that some of you may have friends and colleagues affected by yesterday’s events. Please do not hesitate to reach out if you are in need of support, and I trust that we will all provide support to each other as we uphold our community and the UNC System community at large.
If you need additional assistance, you can reach out to our Counseling Center or access after-hours counseling at 855-726-1497. Faculty and staff may access the state’s 24/7 Employee Assistance Program administered by ComPysch by calling 888-311-4237 or download the Ginger mental health app for free.
We are all weary of these continued senseless events and their aftermath, and can only hope for a time when we are no longer in need of messages like these. For now, we embrace our peers and hold fast to a belief that goodness will prevail in our complicated world.
