As one could imagine, this year has looked very strange for service in ArtistCorps. Weekly virtual meetings with the Williams Adult Day Center (WADC) team has kept us moving and motivated to create content and not forget why we are continuing this work.
One of the most positive things that has come from this strange year has been the opportunity to meet and speak with others who are involved in similar work in serving individuals with Alzheimer's and dementia.
The WADC team and I have spoken with peers via Zoom from Peabody, Curtis, and other nationally acclaimed conservatories. It has been very special to speak to others my age from around the country who have as much a passion for this work as much as we do.
The biggest highlight so far was meeting with Art Bloom, the leader of Arbor Acres’ performance group Sharps and Flats. Mr. Bloom does amazing work with the residents of this retirement community and has made such a difference in their lives. Some of the many benefits include: delaying the progression of memory loss, giving them something to look forward to every week, and creating a positive community environment like no other!
Art gave the team such valuable advice and insights that I truly hope we will be able to integrate into our continued service.
