Edges

Edges

We know that 2020 has been disappointing for many theatre doers and goers, but we truly hope that 2021 will provide the opportunity to think outside of the box! We invite all middle and high school students to come on out to audition for UNCSA Acting Out’s production of "Edges"! We will be rehearsing this show in person with masks on throughout the rehearsal process. We will film the production and show it as a Drive-in Movie. We will be sharing more details as we get into rehearsals. Resident Acting Out director, Nick Zayas will be leading the production alongside the beloved Charlie Kluttz as music director.

"Edges" is a song-cycle about a few burgeoning adults asking classic coming-of-age questions. Written by Tony-award winning Benj Pasek and Justin Paul ("Dear Evan Hansen," "LaLaLand," "Dogfight") in their sophomore year at the University of Michigan, this charming, witty and honest examination of adulthood explores what happens when we are teetering on the edges of our lives.

The songs cover such universal issues as love, commitment, identity and meaning. Characters deal with confronting emotions, escaping expectations and deciphering complicated relationships. While the show is written for four performers, our production of "Edges" will be expanded to include multiple actors playing a variety of roles.

Character Descriptions

Men (vocal ranges B3-B5) – portray characters ranging from a quirky 19-year-old to a college kid with dreams of being a life-changing inventor or a recent civil law graduate working in retail to a man who has finally found love.

Women (vocal ranges E3-E5) – portray characters ranging from a 30-year-old bachelorette to a jealous, fun-loving 7-year-old or a boisterous party girl to a 30-year-old who is realizing she may have found someone to settle down with.
