News & Promotion Guidelines

The Office of Marketing and Communications is the principal liaison with the news media. News media requests for information or comments should be directed to the News Services Manager. The manager’s role is to determine the best method and content of response, confer with University Counsel if necessary (to identify potential legal issues pertaining to privacy laws and other regulations), and identify additional personnel to speak on behalf of the University. The office will not interfere with any employee or student’s rights to free speech, but will act as a resource and liaison when dealing with the news media.

If you are seeking media coverage for your university-related activity or achievement, contact the News Services Manager. Employees and students are asked not contact members of the news media about matters pertaining to the university without prior consent of the News Services Manager, the Director of Communications, or the Chief Marketing Officer.

The office will determine which stories are newsworthy and appropriate for promoting the mission, vision, core values and strategic goals of the university. Communications staff will determine the best method for communicating such stories, and will collaborate with Digital Media staff to distribute information through platforms that may include official press releases, news tips or advisories to media outlets, social media posts, or web page features.

Recruitment and Institutional Promotion

Because of the need to clearly and consistently communicate the UNCSA brand, all printing and advertising materials must comply with the brand guidelines.

The Office of Marketing and Communications governs the UNCSA brand and the development of materials to highlight the strategic goals of the university. The office also manages the identity standards/guidelines including logo and seal usage, typefaces, color palettes and design templates for presenting information in a logical and consistent way.

The office is responsible for design, content and distribution of official university publications. These including the UNCSA Magazine (see below), Performance Calendar (see below), Commencement Program, recruitment materials including the Viewbook (see below), and others.

If a project is not being produced through the Office of Marketing and Communications, the Marketing and Communications Office must give final approval in order to ensure that the standards have been met with clarity, accuracy and efficiency.

Performance Promotion

The Office of Marketing and Communications is responsible for the marketing efforts for all performances at the university. This includes purchased social media posts,, radio ads, television ads, e-communication, out of home ads, collateral and print ads.


The Office of Marketing and Communications is responsible for the photo documentation of performances for archival purposes. The university does not employ a full-time photographer or videographer, but does use free-lancers to capture performances and events on the campus.
