News & Promotion Guidelines
The Strategic Communications Division is the principal liaison with the news media.
Did media contact you?
Direct news media requesting information or comments to the Media Manager. The Media Manager is a resource for you and will not impede employees' or students' rights to free speech. The Media Manager:
- provides the best method and response content
- confers with University Counsel, if needed
- suggests more people who can speak for the University
Want media coverage?
To publicize a university activity or achievement, contact the Media Manager. For University matters, inform the Media Manager before contacting the news media. The Media Manager or Vice Chancellor of Strategic Communications determines consent. Stories need to promote the mission, vision and strategic goals of the University. There are several ways to tell a story. Strategic Communications offers distribution methods: press releases, social media posts or web features. Another method is news tips or advisories to media outlets.
