Performance Overview

Bringing together artists, technologists and thought leaders, the residency puts the artist, and the human, at the center of timely conversations about ethics, intellectual property and creative labor. The event culminates in the North Carolina premiere of "Letter to Nobody" an acclaimed collaboration from choreographer and Martha Graham Dance Company member Xin Ying, Mimi Yin and NUUM Collective that brings art and technology together in a deeply personal exploration of identity, legacy and human connection. 

 

Panelists include Koven J. Smith, arts strategist and technologist, providing context on emerging technology and generative AI in the arts; Cézanne Charles, artist, designer and researcher, exploring the ethical implications of AI in creative practice; Dave Hansen, copyright attorney, examining intellectual property, artists’ rights and AI training; and Jillian Arnold, labor and technology leader, addressing creative labor and protections for artists in the AI era. Artists Xin Ying and Mimi Yin will also discuss how emerging technologies can open new creative possibilities in dance and performance.

 

You can also join us for a free screening of “The AI Doc” on Friday, Aug. 28, followed by a conversation about the film and the evolving role of AI in society and the arts. The residency and film screening are presented in partnership with the Thomas S. Kenan Institute for the Arts.
