Save the date for the UNCSA Emerging Technology in the Arts Residency, a thought-provoking afternoon exploring how emerging technologies such as AI are reshaping artistic practice. 

Hosted by the University of North Carolina School of the Arts and the Thomas S. Kenan Institute for the Arts, the residency will bring together artists, technologists, legal scholars and industry leaders to examine the ethical, legal, technical and creative implications of AI for the arts. The event centers on the work of acclaimed choreographer and Martha Graham Dance Company member Xin Ying, which was created in collaboration with Mimi Yin and NUUM Collective.  

The afternoon will feature a deep dive into their AI-inflected work, "Letter to Nobody," alongside  discussions with leading experts on AI's role in artistic practice, a presentation of the work and an audience talkback. 

The residency also includes a free public screening of “The AI Doc: Or How I Became an Apocaloptimist," an acclaimed film exploring AI and society that premiered at SXSW 2026, presented in partnership with a/perture cinema in Winston-Salem, on Friday evening.
