Mystery, movement and imagination shape this program for the UNCSA Wind Ensemble and Chamber Winds, led by conductor Mark Norman and guest conductor Timothy Heath.

Gustav Holst’s “Dances of the Spirit Fire” invites audiences in with vivid color and driving rhythmic energy, setting a tone of intensity and motion for the evening. Morten Lauridsen’s “O Magnum Mysterium,” in H. Robert Reynolds’s expressive wind setting, follows with both stillness and warmth.

Lindsay Bronnenkant’s “Tarot “turns inward toward symbolism and fate, unfolding in shifting textures and unexpected turns The program closes with Jaromír Weinberger’s “Polka and Fugue” from Czech opera “Schwanda the Bagpiper” — a finale of brilliance and contrast, where folk-inspired dance gives way to dazzling force.

Together, these works build from raw force to inward peace, ending in a burst of rhythmic flame.
