Performance Overview

“Frozen Cathedral” brings together the UNCSA Wind Ensemble and Chamber Winds in a program that moves from inner radiance to vast, immersive sound. Led by Mark Norman and guest conductor Jon Caldwell, the evening features works that stretch across contrasting musical worlds.

Katahj Copley’s "Sol Intus" delivers an urgent, light and emotional intensity, slowly unfolding in shifting color and momentum. Percy Grainger’s "Lincolnshire Posy" follows as a cornerstone of the repertoire, transforming English folk songs into character-rich portraits.

John Mackey’s cinematic "Frozen Cathedral" closes the program on an expansive scale, where shimmering textures give way to a suspended sense of space. The result is a shared journey between musician and audience: traveling from interior fire to folk energy and monumental stillness — creating a memorable and awe-inspiring atmosphere in which to linger.
