Performance Overview

Willkommen, bienvenue, welcome! Leave your troubles outside and step into the provocative Kit Kat Klub, where spectacle, music and indulgence are an enticing escape from reality. In six-time Tony Award-winning musical “Cabaret,” the night is electric and carefree. Pleasure and possibility overpower growing unease... until the illusion begins to fracture. 

Set in 1930s Berlin, the story follows an American writer and a British cabaret performer whose lives intertwine within a city on the brink of profound change. As life beyond the stage grows increasingly unstable, the boundary between entertainment and reality begins to dissolve, forcing characters — and audiences — to reckon with what it means to look away from harsh truths of reality. 

“Cabaret” is directed by alumnus Michael Lluberes (B.F.A. Drama ’01), choreographed by School of Dance Dean Endalyn T. Outlaw and music directed by faculty member Janine Hawley. Featuring fan-favorite musical numbers “Willkommen,” “Don’t Tell Mama,” “Maybe This Time” and “Cabaret.” 

Lluberes returns to UNCSA as an alumni director with support from the Thomas S. Kenan Institute for the Arts.
