Minghan (Calvin) Feng is a versatile violinist and violist currently a Winston-Salem Symphony String Orchestra Fellow on full scholarship at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts (UNCSA) under the tutelage of Professors Ida Bieler and Brett Deubner. He is an experienced orchestral musician, having previously served as Vorspieler of the Royal Northern College of Music (RNCM) Symphony Orchestra.
Prior to his time in the United States, Minghan earned his degrees on full scholarship from the RNCM, studying with professors Yair Kless and James Clark, and furthered his studies at the Musik und Kunst Privatuniversität der Stadt Wien under professor Dominika Falger. During his time in Vienna, he actively participated in numerous music festivals, including the International Mendelssohn Festival, Kulturwelten Wien im Musikverein, and the Cremona International Music Festival.
As an avid chamber musician, Minghan recently performed at the International Chamber Music Academy of Ochsenhausen, where he led the Bruch String Octet and performed
Beethoven’s Septet. He has also collaborated with esteemed musicians such as Matthias Buchholz, Henning Kraggerud, Anu Tali, and Henk Guittard.
Deeply committed to music education and community engagement, Minghan serves as an instructor and ensemble leader for the UNCSA ArtistCorps outreach program. Through the Vivaldi Project, he brings music pedagogy, orchestra direction, and concert preparation to local elementary schools.
Minghan performs on a 1981 Clifford Roberts viola, on generous loan from a UNCSA donor.
