The UNCSA Community Music School (CMS) provides opportunities for teachers seeking to expand their curricula, fine-tune their skills and collaborate with colleagues. These opportunities can include applied lesson and group class observations and one-on-one meetings with CMS faculty, specifically designed to provide instructional support.
Most, if not all, of our faculty have private studio teaching experience. While teaching privately affords the teacher the comfort of one's own home and complete freedom in the way one chooses to teach, teaching individual lessons has its own challenges, from finding the time to teach fundamental disciplines, such as theory and aural skills, to creating a sense of a vibrant community of engaged students.
CMS offers our applied faculty the extended classroom experiences designed to address these challenges. Every CMS teacher whose students are enrolled in our group class curriculum has felt the positive difference these make in student preparation, engagement, dedication, and sustained interest in music. We believe that every music teacher deserves the same; and we are making it our top priority to share our know-how with North Carolina teachers.
