Emeritus Faculty Process

Emeritus Faculty Process

An instructional faculty member who retires from UNCSA with a minimum of 15 years of permanent full-time teaching (multi-year contract faculty) at the institution is eligible for emeritus status. Recommendations for emeritus appointments are initiated in the individual schools or divisions, where a member of the faculty must nominate the candidate.

All recommendations must be voted upon by the voting faculty in that school or division, and must carry the vote with at least a 2/3-majority. Upon endorsement by the chancellor and provost, the recommendation must be approved by the Board of Trustees; it is the Board of Trustees that ultimately grants the distinction of emeritus faculty.

For more information about the Emeritus Faculty policy, please see Section 6.1.6, Emeritus Faculty of the UNCSA Faculty Manual.
