Audition Process
Application and Pre-Screen Deadline: Dec. 4, 2020 |
Zoom Interview
Interviews will consist of two parts on a singular date:
Part One
Information Session with Artistic Director, Steven LaCosse
Part Two
Work Session with Music Director, James Allbritten and Vocal Coach, Angela Vanstory
Ward
- You will be tested on sight singing and diction
- Musical and dramatic work on your Pre-Screen Selections and Audition Repertoire List
Application Requirements
To obtain an audition for the A.J. Fletcher Opera Institute, you must submit the following:
- A formal application and fee paid to UNCSA
- A cover letter concisely stating your career goals and why you feel the A.J. Fletcher Opera Institute can best help you achieve those goals, as well as your preferred audition date
- Transcripts from all secondary institutions attended. Transcripts must be sent directly from the institution.
- Three letters of recommendation from professionals in the field of opera
- Up-to-date résumé
- Recent headshot
- Audition repertoire
- MM in Voice applicants: Pre-screening video recording file or link consisting of two contrasting arias.
- Graduate Certificate applicants: Pre-screening video file or link consisting of 3 arias representing three languages
- PAC applicants: Pre-screening video recording file or link consisting of four arias, representing at least three languages.
Live Audition Requirements
Finalists will be invited to Winston-Salem for a live audition for the Fletcher Opera and Voice faculty. Auditions will be held in two parts. Part one is your performance/presentation, after which the audition panel will decide if you should be invited for a call back audition, which will occur on the same day. At the call back you will have vocal and dramatic working sessions with faculty and will be tested on sight-reading, and diction.
Master of Music in Voice Auditions
- Five selections of contrasting style in four languages; English, French, German** and Italian. (**Russian, Czech or Spanish may be substituted for German.)
- Three of the selections must be opera arias.
- One of the selections must be written after 1950.
Graduate Certificate in Voice Auditions
- Six selections of contrasting style in four languages; English, French, German** and Italian. (**Russian, Czech or Spanish may be substituted for German.)
- Four of the selections must be opera arias.
- One of the selections must be written after 1950.
Professional Artist Certificate Auditions
- Seven selections of contrasting style in four languages: English, French, German** and Italian. (**Russian, Czech or Spanish may be substituted for German.)
- Five selections must be opera arias.
- One selection must be from an oratorio.
- One of the selections must be written after 1950.
