AUX Gaming Network

UNCSA allows students to connect some gaming consoles and smart devices to the wireless Auxiliary (AUX) Network in the residence halls. By registering your device through submitting an IT support ticket, each resident can connect their smart or gaming devices to the AUX Network. Laptops and desktops should continue to access wireless via the Student Network and will not be permitted on the AUX Network because of security issues. Device registrations will be deleted at the end of each semester.

Devices to Register
Devices that would benefit from using the AUX Network are Smart TVs, Apple TV, Amazon Fire, Roku, game consoles (Xbox, Wii, PlayStation), Kindle, Blu-Ray players, etc. This service is offered as a convenience to residential students; the Information Technology Help Desk does not provide support for gaming consoles and smart devices.

  • Not all gaming consoles are capable of connecting to UNCSA's networks.
  • Some smart devices or game features may not work well on the wireless network due to the differences between home and enterprise networks.

When to Register
Residential students can visit the Help Desk table during move-in or schedule a time for technicians to visit their room to verify that it is an appropriate device type for the Wireless AUX Network. If the device is appropriate they will record the MAC address to grant access to the AUX Network. You also can register your device any time during the year by submitting an AUX Network Request Ticket.
