UNCSA alumni receive multiple nominations for 78th Emmy Awards

Several UNCSA alumni received nominations in both the Primetime Emmy Awards' marquee categories and the Creative Arts Emmy Awards, recognizing excellence in acting, producing and behind-the-scenes crafts. Nominations for the 78th Emmy Awards were announced today.

Martin Short, Steve Martin and Selena Gomez in "Only Murders in the Building." UNCSA Drama alumna Tiffany Little Canfield (B.F.A. '00) is nominated for an Emmy for Outstanding Casting for a Comedy Series for the show.

UNCSA alumni Primetime Emmy nominations include:

  • School of Dance alumna Katherine LaNasa (High School ’83) is nominated for outstanding supporting actress in a drama series for her performance as Charge Nurse Dana Evans in HBO Max’s “The Pitt.” Last year, LaNasa won an Emmy Award for the same role in the same category.
  • D&P alumnus Tanase Popa (B.F.A. ’06) is nominated twice as an executive producer. He is nominated for outstanding limited or anthology series for FX/Hulu’s “Love Story: John F. Kennedy Jr. & Carolyn Bessette” and outstanding short-form nonfiction or reality series for “Love Story: John F. Kennedy Jr. & Carolyn Bessette – A Love Untold.”

UNCSA alumni Creative Arts Emmy nominations include:

  • High School Visual Arts alumna Blair Aycock (’04) is nominated for outstanding period or fantasy/sci-fi makeup (non-prosthetic) for her work as key makeup artist on the “Love Story: John F. Kennedy Jr. & Carolyn Bessette” episode “The Pools Party.”
  • Design and Production (D&P) alumna Raquel Bianchini is nominated for outstanding period or fantasy/sci-fi hairstyling for her work as an additional hairstylist on the “Fallout” episode “The Strip.”
  • School of Drama alumna Tiffany Little Canfield (B.F.A. ’00) is nominated twice for casting. She is nominated for outstanding casting for a comedy series for Hulu’s “Only Murders in the Building” and outstanding casting for a drama series for Hulu’s “Paradise.” Drama alumnus Brian Sutow (B.F.A. ’09) shares the “Paradise” nomination for his work as associate casting director.
  • School of Filmmaking alumnus Ryan Collins (B.F.A. ’07) is nominated twice for his work on MGM+ and Prime Video’s “Spider-Noir.” He is nominated for outstanding sound editing for a comedy or drama series (one hour) for his work as sound designer on the episode “The Man in the Mask” and outstanding sound mixing for a comedy or drama series (one hour) for his work as re-recording mixer on “Step Into My Office.”
  • Filmmaking alumnus Chris Ellison (B.F.A. ’15) is nominated twice for outstanding cinematography for a reality program. He is nominated for his work as a camera operator on the CBS series “Survivor” and “The Amazing Race.”
  • Filmmaking alumnus William Files (B.F.A. ’02) received three nominations for sound editing and mixing. He is nominated for outstanding sound editing for a comedy or drama series (one hour) and outstanding sound mixing for a comedy or drama series (one hour) for his work as co-supervising sound editor and re-recording mixer on the “Stranger Things” episode “Chapter Eight: The Rightside Up.” Files is also nominated for outstanding sound editing for a comedy or drama series (half-hour) and animation for his work as co-supervising sound editor on Hulu’s “Predator: Killer of Killers.”
  • Filmmaking alumnus Akira Fukasawa (B.F.A. ’16) is nominated for outstanding sound mixing for a limited or anthology series or movie for his work as production mixer on the “DTF St. Louis” episode “Amphezyne.”

Hosted by Mariska Hargitay, the 78th Emmy Awards will be held Monday, Sept. 14, and will air live at 8 p.m. on NBC and stream live on Peacock. The Creative Arts Emmy Awards will be presented over two nights, Saturday, Sept. 5, and Sunday, Sept. 6.

In addition, other alumni from multiple disciplines contributed to several Emmy-nominated productions.
