Jacob Bower (he/him) is a contemporary dance artist originally from Spartanburg, South Carolina. He began his formal training at Arts Academy of the Carolinas under the direction of Katina Alexander, where he built a strong technical foundation in modern, jazz, ballet, and contemporary dance. Early in his training, Jacob developed a passion for movement that blends technical precision with emotional expression.
He later continued his studies at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, where he has trained with esteemed faculty and artists including Brenda Daniels, Endalyn T. Outlaw, Ming-Lung Yang, Abigail Yager, and Angelina Sansone. During his time there, Jacob has immersed himself in a wide range of contemporary, modern, and classical ballet practices, expanding his versatility through techniques such as Horton, Limón, Cunningham, West African, Alexander technique, floorwork, and classical ballet.
Jacob has participated in numerous creative processes and original works with
choreographers including Juel D. Lane, Maleek Washington, Lauren Edison, Jim Vincent,
Wesley Williams, and Ja’Malik. He has also been involved in the staging
process of Kyle Abraham’s Non Sequitur Paramore, staged by Stephanie Terasaki, further
enriching his experience in professional rehearsal and performance environments.
As a developing artist, Jacob is deeply interested in exploring the connection between technique, musicality, and storytelling through movement. Outside of the studio, he enjoys spending time with loved ones, crocheting creative projects, and expressing himself through fashion and styling unique outfits.
