Sophie Bennett (she/her) is originally from Medford, Oregon, where she began her dance training at the age of five with Studio Roxander, focusing primarily on classical ballet and contemporary dance. At seventeen, she trepidatiously made the bold decision to move to North Carolina to attend the University of North Carolina School of the Arts for her senior year of high school, hoping to deepen her understanding not just of dance, but of herself as an artist and a person. After graduating high school, Sophie chose to continue her education at UNCSA and is now on track to earn her B.F.A. in Contemporary Dance in the spring of 2026.
During her time at UNCSA, Sophie has built meaningful connections within the dance world, benefiting from the rich opportunities and supportive environment the school offers. She has also worked with outstanding teachers studying a versatile line up of techniques throughout her four years including countertechnique, West Africa, Alexander Technique, Cunningham, Limón, ballet, and floor work.
Yet, Sophie’s most impactful experiences go far beyond the studio. Being surrounded daily by inspiring artists and mentors, she has gained invaluable life lessons that have shaped her into the dancer, artist, and person she is today. For her, this journey has been truly irreplaceable.
