English as a Second Language Instruction

University of North Carolina School of the Arts provides both high school and college-level courses and tutoring in English as a Second Language (ESL) for non-native speaking students. For further information about the ESL program at UNCSA, contact the ESL Instructor Elizabeth Klaimon.

High School Program

All incoming high school students whose first language is other than English must demonstrate proficiency by taking either the TOEFL Junior or SLEP test, and scoring the minimum required by the institution. Students may be enrolled in a high school level English course for non-native speakers.

Undergraduate & Graduate Programs

All incoming undergraduate and graduate international students whose first language is other than English must set up a consultation with the ESL Program Director, Elizabeth Klaimon, 2309 Teaching Learning Center. Please email klaimone@uncsa.edu to arrange an appointment. Individual ESL tutoring is provided as needed.
