Notary and Apostille

The Registrar’s Office will notarize documents and the NC Secretary of State can issue the Apostille.

Notary and Apostille Process

Our office is able to mail notarized documents back to the requestor or send it to the NC Secretary of State (please see instructions below). If your diploma, transcript, and/or degree verification needs a notary or an Apostille please notify the Registrar’s Office at

If you do not have your original diploma, you must first order a replacement diploma.

Mail-In Instructions

1. Return your original diploma to:

2. If the authenticated diploma is being used outside of the United States and needs an Apostille, please follow steps 3-6.

3. Complete a NC Authentication Office Cover Letter which can be found at

4. Send a check or money order for $10.00 to the address above, made payable to the NC Secretary of State (their fee per document for an Apostille or authentication).

5. Provide a self-addressed stamped envelope, large enough to fit your 11 x 14 diploma --this step depends on the option selected on the NC Authentication Office Cover Letter.

6. Provide a pre-paid label to return your documents. Labels can be purchased via USPS.

7. The Registrar’s Office will send the authenticated documents on to the North Carolina Secretary of State for processing and the original documents will be sent back to the requesting individual.
