Sydney Truitt was born and raised in Juneau, Alaska. She started dancing at age four after watching her older sisters dance, which inspired her to become a dancer. She studied at Juneau Dance Theater in ballet, modern and musical theater.
Sydney came to UNCSA for her senior year of high school and continued her training there for college. While at UNCSA, she performed works by José Limón, Merce Cunningham, Dayna Fox, Ming Lung-Yang, Trisha Brown and Yoshito Sakuraba.
